About this plant

A fine-textured local myrtle with narrow leaves and clusters of small white flowers. Its compact, twiggy habit adds a light shrub layer to native gardens, especially where a large screening shrub would feel too heavy.

More plant details

Garden uses
Fine-textured habitat shrub, mixed native border, informal low screen, pond margin and naturalistic planting.
Wildlife value
Not primarily a bird-food shrub, although birds can forage for insects among the fine foliage. No specialist host-plant relationship is used in this rating. The small white myrtaceous flowers provide pollen and nectar for native bees and other insects. Its twiggy branching provides useful low cover and refuge for small animals and insects.
Flowering and fruiting
Small white flowers are produced in the leaf axils, commonly in summer, and are followed by small capsules.
Growth habit
Twiggy evergreen shrub with narrow foliage; indicative mature size 1–3 m × 1–2 m.
Cautions
Best with reliable moisture while establishing; light pruning can encourage a denser garden form.
